The aim in free sparring is to score points. You are using Taekwon-Do as a sport. The scoring system awards 1 point for a hand technique to middle or high section,  2 points for a middle kick and 3 points for a high kick.  The objective is only to touch you partner without causing any pain or injury.  No techniques are allowed below the belt.  As well as developing Focus, Distance and Timing, free sparring improves awareness and encourages spontaneous reaction.

68.  COUNTING IN KOREAN

As in English, the word for the double figure is placed in front of the single figure
word  e.g.  Twenty One, Sumul Hana; Twenty Two, Sumul Dool.  Unlike our own decimal system, Korean counting is based on the number 9.
1 Hanna, 2 Dool, 3 Set, 4 Net, 5 Tasut, 6 Yosot, 7 Ilgup, 8 Yudul, 9 Ahop, 10 Yul
20 Sumul, 30 Surhun, 40 Mahun 50 Swin 60 Yesun 70 Irhun, 80 Yudun, 90 Ahun.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PUNCHES, STRIKES AND THRUSTS

69.  Punches and Strikes
can be used against hard or soft targets, the aim is to smash, pierce or penetrate, this is achieved by focusing the breathing and the  other elements of power to the end of the technique.  Both techniques accelerate in a
relaxed manner throughout there execution in a dynamic twist with tension.
70.  Thrusts
are only used against soft targets.  This technique reaches the target
under tension and at a constant speed after its initial acceleration, exhaling
throughout.  This means they are effective anywhere on the line of attack.
